3 out of 5 stars Not the best, not the worst.   January 8, 2009
I read Twilight mostly out of curiosity, wondering what the big deal was. Overall, I'd say the book is an overwhelming "meh". The story takes awhile to get into, and it is cliched in some of its moments. My biggest complaint was against Meyer's writing style. She refers to Edward as "beautiful" constantly, but I had the hardest time actually picturing him. She finds a small handful of adjectives to describe her characters and rarely deviates from them. Edward's eyes are amazingly deep or he has beautiful marble skin. These constantly get repeated throughout the novel. Bella's motivation to love Edward is ambiguous. She likes him because he's beautiful and mysterious (and apparently because he's a vampire) but she never seems to question this, not once.

I would recommend reading it to judge it for yourself. It certainly isn't for everyone, but I thought it was enjoyable enough to continue on in the series.

4 out of 5 stars comparison   January 8, 2009
Well read by the narrator. You will probably catch something you may have missed when reading this book. Listening is much more engaging for the imagination.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing book   January 8, 2009
I thought this was a wonderful book. Stephenie Meyer created a modern day Romeo & Juliet story. I could not put this book down. I even recommended this to friends who are not avid readers and they were hooked as well. Everyone seems to compare these books to the Harry Potter series. The stories are completely different. The only similarity to the HP series is the target audience. That's about it. I loved Harry Potter but it's a completely different type of story and should not be compared. Twilight is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I thought Stephenie's writing was imaginitive and speaks to a wide variety of age groups (not just the teen readers). This is not your typical vampire story. I liked the fact that it was not about vampires preying on humans. The Cullens are a family of vampires trying to fit into the human society (feeding not on humans but animals to survive). The main story obviously is Edward falling in love with a human girl, Bella. Edward and Bella are two people who are not supposed to be together but cannot be apart because they truly love each other. True soul mates fighting to be together.

5 out of 5 stars Only romantics can properly review this series!   January 8, 2009
As someone always looking for a good book, I was shocked that I hadn't heard of this series until the movie trailers. Against all precedence, I saw the movie first. With prices today, I NEVER see a movie twice at the theater, but I did this one. I'm a mother of two nearly teenagers, and I placed their lives (and dinners) on hold while I read through the entire 4 book series. I can honestly say this is one of the best series I have ever read. One just simply cannot acknowledge that the book is for young audiences and then criticize it for those qualities! (are they averse to a clean, romantic love story?) Savor this series and then recommend it to anyone without reservation for offensive parts. How many books can you say that about? Thank you so much Stephenie Meyer!

5 out of 5 stars Fun Read   January 8, 2009
Twilight is one of those books I can pick up and literally just not put down. I never really was that interested in vampires to begin with, but when I was told to give it a try by one of my friends I didn't regret it.

Yeah sure, the writing is a little simple and corny and times but I think that's one of the reasons a liked it so much. Sometimes reading classic literature can get boring or stiff and sometimes you just want to read something that's almost like a guilty pleasure, something to just take you away from your boring day, because to be honest what girl doesn't want their own Edward Cullen?

Twilight is exciting and has a little of everything in it. If your looking for something fun to read then I defiantly suggest Twilight.
